    Grand Prix debut in 1980
In 1982, he started full participation in 12 races, finishing 3rd in the ranking with 5 podium finishes, including 2 victories.
In 1983, he and Kenny Roberts fought a fierce battle that was considered the most intense season in history. There were no winners until the final round, when both sides won six games and Spencer won his first title by two points.
In 1985, he double-entered the 250cc and 500cc classes, resulting in titles in both. The double title of 250 and 500 is a feat achieved only by Spencer.

Shunji Yashiro (former Honda GP works rider)
The first time I raced with Freddie was at the Japan GP in 1983, and I was astonished to see Freddie's backside disappearing into Degner from an angle I had never seen before.
There are countless anecdotes about Freddy that I have heard in the paddock since he started competing in the World GP.I'd love to read what he has to say about it too!

Shinichi Ito (former Honda GP works rider)
Speaking of Spencer, his battle with Kenny in the '83 GP.I was very much influenced when I saw him slide the front and rear wheels using his knees as fulcrums.I was imagining his driving all the time, not thinking about other riders at all.The 1985 run was the peak and it was awesome.Even when I first raced the NSR500 in the Japanese GP, I was aware of his riding style.
