We mustn't leave it unattended.
ESTRELLA's rear brake is a type of drum brake.
Depending on the year and model, there are several patterns such as front and rear drum brakes, front disc brake and rear drum brake, but the Large half rear brake is a drum brake.
The rear brake was also completely maintenance free, so I am going to replace the brake shoes as well as disassemble and clean it.
What is Drum brake?
The drum brake is a braking system that brakes (decelerates and stops) by pressing a brake shoe with a brake lining (friction material) against the inside of the brake drum that rotates with the wheel. 。
What is a "Brake Shoe?
Drum brake is sometimes used in the front and rear, but recently it is often used in the only rear. 。 In the case of the DrumBraking system, the parts called Brake Shoe are pressed against the Drum to cause friction. 。 Serves the same purpose as Brake Pads in Disc brakes. 。 Brake force is exerted by friction and is worn away.
[Merit of Drum brake
Brakes that are inexpensive, robust, and have high braking power. 。 The Shoe is pressed against the rotating Drum, but the Shoe on the Leading side, which has a fulcrum in front of the direction of rotation, exerts a self-multiplier effect to bite the Drum itself. 。 The large contact surface of the shoe in relation to the drum area is another reason for the high braking force.
[Drum brake's Demerit
(Since friction is caused in the sealed cylinder called "Drum" and braking is done by friction, the frictional heat tends to stay inside the Drum. 。 If the temperature inside the Drum rises, the so-called "Hot Dare." and is not suitable for driving with heavy use of Brake.
How do I know when to replace my Brake Shoe?
The thickness of the friction material part of a new Brake Shoe is about 5mm, and if it is less than 1mm, it is necessary to replace it as soon as possible. 。 The thickness of the Brake Shoe must be disassembled and measured depending on the car model. 。 Mileage is generally considered to be between 50,000 and 100,000 kilometers.
In my case, I should replace it because it has more than 50,000 km and it has deteriorated over time.
[Symptoms of worn out Brake Shoe.
There is no sense of stepping on the Brake lever or Pedal.
○ Noise like dragging Brake.
→ it won't stop in the first place. And it is dangerous because the Wheel will not work properly and heat will build up.
→In my case, the Brake itself works, but there is a strange noise when it is rushed, so it is highly possible that it is decreasing! 。
Replacement procedure. 〜For ~ESTRELLA~ Rear
(1) Stand the Center Stand and float the Rear. 。
↓
(2) Loosen and remove the bolt from the Adjuster and Arm portion of the Brake.
↓
(3) Unplug the ASKULShaft. 。
Bolt may be sticking, so it is better to pull it out slowly while lubricating with lubricant.
It is also effective to use a plastic hammer or something similar to vibrate the car to make it easier to pull it out, but I do not recommend this because it will cause shock to the body of the car.
It also comes with a collar, so don't lose it.
↓
(4) Pull out the tire wheel from the rear side at a slight angle so as not to hit the fender.
↓
(5) Place the tire wheel horizontally so that it will not be damaged, and open the brake cover.
↓
(6) Remove the Brake Shoe (with Spring) that can be seen in the middle.
Separate Spring and Shoe.
Spring is quite sharp, so please wear work gloves when removing it.
↓
(7) Clean up the *garbage and dirt where the Brake Shoe was housed with Parts cleaner.
Garbage....things made of friction.
↓
? Assemble the new Brake Shoe and Spring.
↓
(9) Place (8) in the Wheel.
↓
? ?→? undo in this order.
↓
(11) Adjust Brake's yuubi and check its operation.
〜After replacement
No more noise and better braking. 。
However, the drum brake is softer than the disc brake, so it does not stop abruptly.

Genuine Yamaha Crank Case Cover Gasket for MT09 2020
This was the crank case cover gasket that was to replace the old gasket after the crank case cover swap. No point in using an old gasket when you can easily get a genuine replacement Yamaha one for this money. Finding the right gasket was easy as I already had the schematic for the crank case cover anyway. The price for the new gasket was really good value too and added to teh order, it was shipped using EMS and arrived in 5 days. The gasket was kept nice and flat during transit and was in perfect condition upon arrival. Witht he new crank case cover and this gasket, the job was very straight forward and took literally half an hour to complete. The gasket is very well made and is teh exact same one as I removed so I knew it was all good. The mount holes all aligned up with the crank case cover. Very pleased, thanks Webike. View detail

Genuine Yamaha Crank Case Cover for MT09 2020
This bike came in with a bit of road rash on the right side crank case cover and the owner wanted it replacing. No problem, I know a place that sells these. Finding the right crank case cover was straight forward by using the tools Webike provide and then cross referencing with Yamaha schematics for my own peace of mind. The cover was really good vcalue and I managed to get it whilst this model was in the sale. So much more cheaper than I could source locally. WIth a couple of other smaller parts in my order, I got them all shipped together via EMS and the order arrived in 5 days. The cover came in the Yamaha box and was also surrounded with bubble wrap which Webike warehouse added. No damage was sustained during transit which was perfect for me. The crank case cover is a really well manufactured part. Pretty sure it is cast but that is not a bad thing. The cover is a very precise part and all the mount holes need to be perfect. No need to worry with that as this is a Yamaha part. The paint finish is flawless and is a lovely slightly glossed Yamaha grey that matches the colour of the original one. Fitting was a piece of cake and I also added the new cover gasket to keep it all snug. Very happy customer so thank you Webike. Excellent. View detail

Parts that should be replaced, though not often.
It will be a part that has been neglected for a long time (laughs).
I'm sure everyone is familiar with Oil Filter, but Oil Strainer is unfamiliar to most people, isn't it?
It is not something that should be replaced often, but it is an area that should be replaced at least once over a long period of time.
I felt it when I did it myself (laughs).
[OilStrainer]
‥ This is a filter attached to the end of the engine oil pump inlet. 。
When engine oil is sucked into the oil pan, it serves to prevent the intake of large foreign substances.
Similar to Oil Filter
What is the role of OilStrainer? ]
The OilStrainer is a filter for engine oil and is made of gold mesh. 。
It is responsible for removing foreign matter from the lubricating oil. 。 Gold nets are made of Sugar Crystal weave to remove large foreign objects.
Oil Filter and OilStrainer are not similar.
★ OilStraightner
... Strainer eliminates comparatively Large-grain foreign objects 。
★ Oil Filter
If there is a small component that cannot be removed by the Strainer, the Filter is used.
Strainer and Filter are distinguished by the Large size of the component to be filtered. 。
What happens when OilStrainer gets clogged? ]
‥ When the filter is clogged, impurities and sludge accumulate, and the lubricating action of the oil is reduced. 。
→This results in friction between Gold genusParts, causing wear and seizure. 。 Engine Parts can be damaged or deteriorated, leading to strange noises and a burning smell. → Worse, the Engine may even come to an abrupt stop.
If the foreign substance that is caught by the Straightener is Large, and it is mixed in the engine, it will naturally break... And if it is in the engine while running, Large will be in trouble.
In my case, it has been 25 years since I took delivery of my car and I have not had to replace it (laughs).
I opened it up and it was pretty bad (laughs).
How to exchange ~SR400~
(1) Please remove the Oil. 。
*Engine is cold.
Oil Exchange and Quantity:Doing it in Set will not waste Oil.
↓
(2) Place Tray under the Ku RANCase.
*When replacing the oil, the old oil drips down quite a bit. 。
↓
(3) There is an oil pan under the crankcase (near the drain bolt), so loosen the bolt with a wrench and remove it.
↓
When you remove it, you will find a coarse, small, screen-like gold screen between the oil pan and the oil pan. It is the Straightener.
↓
(5) Check the condition of OilStraightener.
If there seems to be no deterioration, clean the parts with →Parts cleaner and reassemble.
?If there is severe dirt or deterioration of the Gold mesh part, replace it with a new one and assemble it.
↓
? ?→? Put it back down in the order of ? and you are done.
Don't forget to clean the inside of the oil pan. 。
It is not a part that can be felt, but it is dangerous and expensive if the engine is broken by a foreign object, so if you have owned the car for a long time, you should definitely replace it.
I had a fine gravel-like foreign object found in my old Straightener when I was replacing it (laughs).
I'm glad I did it (laughs).

Engine startup in SMART.
I used to say that Parenthesis is good to be able to start the engine with a single KICK without Decompression, but I don't want to overdo it anymore, so I use Decompression to start the engine without compression.
Since the OEMDecompression and Decompression cable are 25 years old since purchase, we became concerned about aging deterioration and purchased a new OEMCable. 。
In fact, the decompression lever was reluctant to move, and even oil-up did not improve the situation, so I thought it was time to replace it.
This SR400 does not have a Cell Motor, but only KICK start, and even KICK is quite heavy unlike the Small Engine Displacement Volume of CUB.
What is SR Decompression? ]
What is Decompression? De Compression. for short "Pull the compression, lose it." or some such meaning 。
When the pressure in the cylinder increases during the compression process at kick start, pulling the decompression lever opens the exhaust valve slightly to release the compression pressure. → as you often say. "Uncompress." That's what I mean.
Therefore, step lightly on the Kick Arm to get a good starting position for the Engine. *Position past the compression step. It is possible to produce
*Position past the compression step. = Also called upper dead point.
What is the role of Decompression? ]
Decompression, as the name implies, is an action to relieve pressure, and it has the role of making the engine start smooth.
The point at which Decompression acts is the pressure inside the Cylinder.
Decompression reduces the burden of starting the engine by allowing air compressed in the cylinder to escape out of the cylinder during engine startup.
That is
No Decompression→. "air" +a little more than usual The Weight of Piston."
Decompression Yes→. The Weight of Piston."
By deflating the Cylinder, the weight of the kick pedal can be reduced.
What is the Merit of Decompression? ]
Smooth KICK is now available. Even women and those who are not strong enough can do it.
○○Ketching prevention. It is a 399cc single-cylinder piston without →Balancer, so it is heavy.
Only the decompression cable was replaced this time since the lever and other parts still seem to be usable.
When choosing a Decompression cable, please note the length of the Cable.
Cable length = Handlebar shape
It would be good if you could think in terms of
Example.)
Separate handle→shorter than OEM. If the length is too short, the handlebar will easily get tangled when it is cut, and the wire may break.
■Trucker handleetc. handlebar Up Type→longer than OEM; Cable is too short to reach or too taut to put in.
■NORMAL or Continental handleetc.→OEM is sufficient.
Replacement procedure.
1) Remove the Front Tappet Cover on the exhaust side when the Piston comes to the top while watching the Indicator, and check that the Locker Arm is in the Free position.
If you pull it out without doing this, the shaft cutout will hit the locker arm and prevent it from being inserted.
↓
(2) Remove the OEM's CableBracket from the bracket since it is fixed with the bracket.
↓
(3) Remove the Bracket, Cable, and Lever, as the Cable becomes Free when removed. 。
Decompression cables should be loosened with the play set to the maximum large setting.
↓
(4) Replace the Cable, place it in the Lever, and fix the Bracket in (2), and you are done.
As for the Point,
Explore the upper dead center→ Remove the Front Tappet Cover on the exhaust side.
If you could be careful not to do this, it will break down.

The OEM oil line hose has been discontinued, and I have been looking for a good oil resistant hose, but have been unable to find a good one, and there is not much information on the Internet.
Then it occurred to me. If it's from a vehicle with a high production count, wouldn't it still be available?" So I did some searching and came across this page.
I used the one I received and found it to be usable without any problems with the Size feel, length, etc.
Since these are OEM Parts, the texture itself is not a problem at all.
The oil line for Yamaha cars is basically the 90445- series, and there may or may not be a difference in the inner diameter. If there is no leakage, the discharge volume itself will not change that much, so it can be used. (Please point out if I'm wrong.)
I was curious later and did some research and found that many of the cars are still quite available for purchase.
At a quick glance, I wonder if 90445-05M07 is the most cost-effective since it is L700. I think so.
In any case, I'm glad to have solved my problem of what to do with the discontinued product for a few hundred dollars.

Genuine Yamaha Crankcase Cover Gasket 1 for YZF-R1 2018
The crankcase cover needed to be replaced with a new one but in the process, the gasket was also needing to be replaced as a matter of course. There is no point in putting an old gasket on a new casing. The correct gasket was found using the tools Webike provide on their help pages. I also cross referenced with Yamaha schematics. The gasket was added to an order with a few other parts and this saved a little on shipping costs. The order arrived, delivered by EMS in 5 days and was all very well packaged. The gasket was added to a piece of cardboard to keep it flat which was perfect. The gasket itself is well made and all the mount point line up exactly as they should. It came in the standard Yamaha packaging too. Not a hard job to complete, make sure the mating surfaces are all clean and free from debris and away you go. Very happy customer. Genuine Yamaha O-Ring Seals for FZ1 2008
These o-rings were also part of the water pump rebuild on the 2008 FZ1 which needed attention due to the age related parts not looking great. Finding the right O-Rings was sumple as I already had the Yamaha schematics for the water pump open. There are 2 of these same o-rings but have different item mnumbers although they are the same part number. With the other parts in my order for the rebuild, I had EMS ship them al toghter to save on shipping costs. The entire order arrived in perfect condition and well packaged in 5 days. Th o-rings were individually packaged in their own Yamaha pouch. They are flexible but also strong as they do need to be. Never any doubt when it comes to Genuine Yamaha parts. They are well within the specifications for the o-rings and time to continue the rebuild to get this bike back on the road. Thanks for the hard work you do Webike, much appreciated. View detail
