A fierce battle for the championship!
In 1991, the 500cc World Grand Prix season was entering a period of warfare.
Rainey, Schwantz, Doohan, Gardner, Kosinski, and Lawson were called the "Six Strong", and their riding of the two-stroke 500cc works machines was said to be the realm of the gods.
Schwantz won the opening race of the season in Japan, while Rainey followed with back-to-back wins in Australia and the United States.
Doohan, who had finished second in three consecutive races since the start of the season, won two consecutive races in Spain and Italy to jump to the top of the ranking.
With that momentum, Doohan took the pole.
In the final race, the top three drivers were battling it out, but on lap 16, Doohan, who was leading the race, developed a tire problem.
The battle for the lead was fiercely contested by Schwantz and Rainey.
And on the last lap, Schwantz's legendary "Ultimate Braking" explodes!
