Speeding Bikers in Mumbai Receive Haircuts as Punishment! - 787

It may be a rather uncommon way to reprimand offenders, but this new punishment has certainly ruffled feathers of speeding bikers who break the law.

Kherwadi Police, under whose jurisdiction Western Express Highway (WEH) falls, have devised a new way to punish bike-borne law breakers. The department recently arrested 13 bikers who were reportedly speeding across the WEH (Western Express Highway). These were then taken to the police station and given haircuts.

These bikers were caught for speeding while they sported outrageous haircuts and rode without helmets. To teach these lawbreakers a lesson, a barber was called to the police station and the bikers were forcibly given haircuts.

The bikers were heading towards South Mumbai and failed to give proper explanations as to their exact destinations. They were arrested under sections 279 (rash driving) and 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.

Receiving these haircuts at the police station was not only humiliating for the bikers but also spoiled their regular styles. Danish Shaikh, 20, a hotel management student from Kurla claimed that he had just spent INR 3,500 on a special style just 2 weeks ago. He also claimed that he was not over-speeding and said that the cops could have just fined them and not ruin their hairstyle.

According to the police, bikers who participate in road races across the city during the nights is on the rise. Their favorite spots are Carter Road, Bandra Reclamation, Western Express Highway and Kherwadi Flyover. They do not use superbikes but modify their regular bikes while they also remove silencers causing disturbance to locals. They perform dangerous stunts, race at high speeds and drive close to other vehicles, putting both their lives and that of other motorists on the road at risk.
