Yamaha have announced a new maxi scooter for 2017. The X-Max 300 will replace the X-Max 250 – and boasts a new engine and spec.

Powering the scooter is a 292cc single-cylinder engine that features Blue Core technology which Yamaha claim yields higher performance while increasing fuel economy and reducing emissions.

 

The scooter will be A2 licence friendly, putting out 27.6bhp at 7500rpm with a max torque of 21 ft lb at 5750 rpm.

The Blue Core technology featured in the engine led to optimised valve shape and timing, as well as a compact hemispherical combustion chamber with a high compression ratio.

An offset cylinder design helps to minimise mechanical losses – and for increased cooling efficiency a DiASil cylinder is used with an oil jet piston cooler.

 

To make the X-Max still feel pokey, there is a new fuel injection system where the position and angle of the 12-hole injector help give better acceleration and a higher top speed while also giving stronger low to mid speed torque than the previous 250cc model.

The motor is housed in an all-new chassis too and is the first scooter to feature motorcycle style front forks.

 

Traction control and ABS will come as standard on the scooter to bring it in line with Euro4 regulations that will come into effect in January 2017.

The X-Max will also come with practical features such as a 12-volt socket located in the glovebox and one of the largest underseat storage compartments in its class that will fit two full-face lids

The X-Max will be available in three colours; Lunar Grey, Milky White and Quasar Bronze. It will be available from March next year but there’s no word on price yet.
