Yamaha R15, FZ-S, Ray and Fazer production discontinued
India Yamaha Motor has suspended four models from its Indian product portfolio. Its most popular R15 motorcycle has been replaced with its R15S bike, which was introduced last year in domestic market.
The YZF-R15s with unibody seat , designed to provide more convenience to rider and pillion both. Equipped with 150cc liquid cooled, 4 stroke SOHC, 4 Valve engine, front and rear disc brakes along with a fuel capacity of 12 litres, 5 spoke alloy wheel and sporty graphics.
YAMAHA’s Humachine Technology aims to provide a superior riding experience for both rider and pillion. To create this, a Unibody seat has been adopted. This is ergonomically designed to give optimal support to rider and pillion, at all speeds, over longer duration rides as well.
Yamaha R series bikes are equipped with under cowls that are based on the image of a diffuser, to give them the best form for aero-management. These are not cowls for simply enclosing the engine, but forms composed of blade surfaces that actively control airflow. This spirit has been directly inherited by the YZF-R15s.
The carburetted version of its street naked FZ-S was also discontinued and the FZ-SI FI, which has been doing well in terms of sales, will take up its place, also the least expensive version- Yamaha FZ will still be available on sale.
The third motorcycle in cut off list was the semi-faired version of FZ-series- the Fazer. Sharing the same faith as its steetbike sibling, the Fazer also gets replaced by a fuel injected version. It is expected that the discontinuation of both carburetted version will help the company increase the sales of its Fuel-injected version of both bikes. The fourth scooter that production was put on hold is the Ray, which was the first scooter that was offered by the company to Indian Market. Now, Yamaha’s recently launched scooter, the Fascino has received positive response from its buyers, which led the company to stop the production of Ray.
Yamaha recently showcased its new Ray ZR scooter at recently held Delhi Auto Expo 2016 and it will become the new replacement of the recently discontinued model. The current bike portfolio which is still available on sale are R15S, R15 version 2.0, FZ, FZ-FI, FZS-FI, Fazer-FI, and its scooter portfolio consist Fascino, Alpha and Ray Z.
