When Yamaha debuted the MT-10 at EICMA last year, it was a polarizing machine   and we weren’t quite sure what to make of it. An homage to the Dank Wheelies generation , the MT-10 is not your father’s FZ1.

We thought the borders to the United States had been fortified against the Yamaha MT-10, but recent filings with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) show that the now-called Yamaha FZ-10 will be a 2017 model in the USA.

Adding a liter-bike option to the “Dark Side of Japan” marketing program, the Yamaha FZ-10 is powered by the YZF-R1’s cross-plane , inline-four, 999cc engine.

This means that the Yamaha FZ-10 also gets some of the R1’s electronics, including a three-level traction control system  traction control, three riding modes through Yamaha’s “D-Mode” throttle mapping , as well a slipper clutch .

The styling though, that’s entirely from the FZ/MT line, and should help bring young riders into Yamaha’s lineup. No word on pricing or availability yet, though we suspect we might see the model in dealerships before the year is out.

We are eagerly awaiting the addition of the FZ-10 to Yamaha’s American lineup, if for no other reason than to see the reaction it receives from the riding community. So, we have to ask the question: would you rock one, if given the chance?
