MotoGP: Marquez on pole as horror weekend continues for Lorenzo

MotoGP 2016 at Sachsenring Germany

Marc Marquez has stormed to pole position for tomorrow’s German MotoGP round at Sachsenring, topping the time sheets with ease from surprise front row man Hector Barbera and Valentino Rossi in third.

But a horror weekend has continued for title rival Jorge Lorenzo, after a poor FP3 saw him in the Q1 qualifying session for the first time ever. However, it only got worse from there, as the reigning champion crashed out of both Q1 and Q2. He will start tomorrow’s race from 11th.

Danilo Petrucci is fourth, setting the exact same time as Valentino Rossi and only losing out on a front row start when it came to second fastest laps. He’s joined on row two by Pol Espargaró and Maverick Viñales.

Andrea Dovizioso headed row three from Aleix Espargaró, while a Q2 crash meant ninth was the best that Andrea Iannone could do on the second factory Ducati. Dani Pedrosa rounded out the top ten.

It was a difficult day for the Brits, with Cal Crutchlow best in thirteenth, heading a fifth row of Bradley Smith and Scott Redding, while Eugene Laverty will start from 18th.
