One of the biggest custom motorcycle shows in the Asia-Pacific region is the Yokohama Hot Rod show at the Pacifico exhibition centre in Yokohama, Japan in December. This year, the 25th edition of the show, sees the first ever entry from a Malaysian custom builder in this world-class event.
Competing against 600 custom bikes from Japan and around the world is the Monster, a local build by Beautiful Machines. The brain-child of owners Rajay Singh and Eng Chin Guan, together with fabricators Mohd Azman Mat Hassan, Azrine Zakaria and Mohamad Irwan Mohd Azlan, the Monster is based on a 1993 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail.
Initially shown at the Art of Speed show held recently in Malaysia, the Monster’s 1,340 cc V-twin engine has been leaned on, and a supercharger – taken off a Nissan March – installed to boost power. A PDL clutch basket has also been added to beef up the drivetrain.
The frame has been stretched out, giving the Monster that classic dragster profile, along with computer modelling of the engine barrels to ensure optimum heat dissipation. In all, creation of this custom bike consumed over RM250,000 and needed nearly six months to bring to life.
As the first Malaysian entry to the Yokohama Hot Rod show, Rajay said that the Monster will proudly represent Malaysia, and hoped that this would inspire more Malaysian custom builders to follow the path being blazed. Rajay also said that there are plans to enter the Monster – after suitable modification – at Bonneville Speed Week in Utah, US, next year.
