This was the fourth time in 1981 that he participated in the TBC Big Road Race.
His ranking in the 1981 World GP was 3rd.There were rumors that K. Roberts would retire after this race.
The switch from the Goodyear shoes he had been wearing until then to Michelin shoes was thought to be one of the reasons for this.
On the morning of the final, Roberts shaved off all the beard he had been sporting and was fired up.
Barry Sheene, Boet van Dulmen, Ikujiro Takai, Keiji Kinoshita, and Sadao Asami ride the '82 TZ500.
Ikujiro Takai, who was reported injured in the European round, finished second.
