What is Brocade?
Brocade fabric is a rich fabric that is said to have been perfected in China in the 10th century, when dynastic culture flourished.
It was introduced to Japan in the Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1603) and fused with the culture of Nishijin-ori in Kyoto, which has continued since the Muromachi period (1333-1573), and has since developed into a culture unique to Japan.
It is characterized by the exquisite beauty of the threads woven together with gold and silver leaf.
Many of the designs are based on motifs of Heian period scrolls, cherry blossoms, and lucky charms, showing the unique culture of Kyoto.
