Daddy Decha ends six-year wait for title at ARRC 2016 - header3

Thailand’s Decha Kraisart wins Race 1 of the SuperSports 600cc in the third round of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at the Suzuka Circuit. On his left is Japanese Yuki Takahashi and Tomoyoshi Koyama (right).

New dad Decha Kraisart thrived at the Suzuka circuit to end a six-year SuperSports 600cc win drought in the third round of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC).

The 35-year-old Thai rider, third on the starting grid, carried the fight to Japan’s Yuki Takahashi in the first five laps.

But the race was red-flagged on the fifth lap when Thai Anucha Nakcharoensri crashed at the final chicane. The riders were reassembled for a shortened race and at the end of the combined race times, Decha was declared the winner with a time of 20:01.675. Yuki finished second in 20:02.003 while compatriot Tomoyoshi Koyama was third in 20:03.420.

“The latest addition to our family was born yesterday (June 3). When I received the good news, I felt super charged and confident that I could handle anything. Coincidently, I named my son Japan Kraisart because I loved the years I spent racing in the All Japan Championship.”

“It may be a coincidence but I feel like my son brought me good luck in this race. A few years ago, I named my first born daughter Asia Kraisart, in tribute to this championship,” said Decha, who was the SuperSports 600cc champion in 2007 and 2010. Malaysia’s Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman finished fifth to pick up 11 points. He still leads the overall standings with 89 points.
